On 5 August, Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko held a substantive discussion with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. As the head of the Ukrainian Government noted, her team has been actively collaborating with Scott Bessent for several months, but this was the first conversation in her new role, allowing for a broader range of topics to be addressed.

The parties paid particular attention to a potential defence agreement previously announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Discussions focused on the prospects for producing and selling Ukrainian drones, as well as the potential procurement of American weapons.

Separately, they discussed the launch of the U.S-Ukraine Reconstruction Investment Fund. The Ukrainian Government is working to expand the fund's mandate, particularly to attract investment in the defence sector. The first meeting of the fund's board of directors is scheduled for September this year, with the goal of launching the first three projects within 18 months.

The conversation also touched on strengthening sanctions against the aggressor country and cooperation with international financial institutions.

"We agreed to continue the dialogue at a working level. I am grateful to the United States for its consistent support of Ukraine and our shared commitment to a just and lasting peace," emphasised Yulia Svyrydenko.
