Major Swedish contribution for military support package to Ukraine

Sweden will contribute USD 275 million - approximately SEK 2.7 billion - for a military support package to Ukraine. At a press conference on 5 August, the Government announced that Sweden will finance an entire support package of US military materiel, together with Denmark and Norway.
US President Donald Trump announced on 14 July that the United States will supply Ukraine with defence material, in the form of several support packages. NATO will coordinate the implementation and ensure that the contents of the package meet the most urgent needs of Ukraine. NATO Allies and partners provide the funding.
At a press conference on 5 August, Minister for Defence Pål Jonson, Minister for Energy, Business and Industry Ebba Busch and Minister for Education and Integration Simona Mohamsson announced that Sweden has decided to provide USD 275 million. To continue to meet Ukraine's most urgent needs, Sweden will finance an entire support package together with Denmark and Norway, with a total value of USD 500 million. The support will include air defence systems, including munitions to Patriot, anti-tank systems, ammunition and spare parts.
"We welcome the United States' decision to provide defence materiel to Ukraine, including the Patriot air defence system, and that NATO is coordinating the assistance. Ukraine urgently needs the support of Allies and partners to defend itself against Russia's aggression," says Mr Jonson.
"It is a strength that Sweden, together with Norway and Denmark, could quicky come together and co-finance a support package to Ukraine. The US can assist with unique defence materiel for which Ukraine has a major need," says Ms Busch.
"Ukraine stands on the frontline of our freedom and democracy. Blue and yellow solidarity is therefore the single most important thing right now. We will stand by their side for as long as it takes, support package by support package - military and humanitarian. Together in NATO, together with Ukraine, we continue to defend freedom," says Ms Mohamsson.
Sweden has assisted Ukraine with military support worth approximately SEK 83 billion since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of the country. Sweden's contributions to the US initiative will come from Sweden's economic framework for the military support to Ukraine.
