The SSU Military Counterintelligence has uncovered another attempt by russia's military intelligence agency ('the GRU') to penetrate the Defence Forces.
As a result of proactive measures in Dnipropetrovsk region, the SSU has detained a mobilized soldier to the combat brigade of the State Special Transport Service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, who was working for the enemy.
The detention took place while the suspect was undergoing general military training.
According to the investigation, the soldier was recruited by the occupiers after being mobilized to the relevant unit. He came to the attention of the GRU due to his pro-russian comments on social media.
The agent's main task was to adjust russian air strikes against the Defense Forces in Dnipropetrovsk region.
It has been documented that the suspect leaked the geolocation of the military unit where he underwent military training.
After that, the mole started gathering the coordinates of nearby Defense Forces units that the occupiers were planning to hit with missiles.
The agent passed the collected intelligence to the handler via messenger marking targets on Google maps with detailed descriptions.
The SSU Military Counterintelligence has exposed the mole, documented his contacts with the GRU, and detained him. During the special operation, measures were taken to secure the locations of the Defense Forces in the area of enemy reconnaissance activity.
During a search, the detainee was seized of a phone with evidence of working for the enemy.
Investigators of the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region have notified the traitor of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The offender is in custody without the right to bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Dnipro Specialized Prosecutor's Office on Defense in the Eastern Region.
