
Foreign ministers of Poland and Ukraine meet in Chobielin

The chief diplomats of Poland and Ukraine, Radosław Sikorski and Andrii Sybiha, met in Chobielin (in Poland's Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province) on August 1st. Held in a snug setting, the talks focused on bilateral cooperation and continued assistance to Kyiv, among other topics.
Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski highlighted that Poland plays a key role in striving for a peaceful conclusion to Russia's aggression in Ukraine and in the latter country's post-war reconstruction and EU membership. Also discussed were matters of consistent military aid, the shared strategic interests like peace and security, and unwavering support in political and social issues.
The top diplomats concentrated on security challenges. Minister Sikorski stressed the significance of the successive tranches of EU's military aid and noted that the US has resumed its support, while Russia and its allied countries have been targeted with comprehensive sanctions.
The focus of the bilateral issues on the agenda was on historical dialogue and a bilateral agreement to regulate the Polish minority's education status. Minister Sikorski said that there has been progress in searching for and exhuming the victims of the Wolhyn massacre and that it is important to keep up with Polish education in Ukraine, speaking highly of the current Poland-Ukraine relations.
Minister Sikorski reiterated that Poland supports Ukraine's efforts to join the EU, making a point about the role of the amending provisions that ensure the autonomy of anti-corruption institutions and highlighting that their work must be effective.
To wrap up the event, the two foreign ministers made statements and gave a press conference.
