The SSU Counterintelligence and the National Police have prevented a new terrorist attack in Odesa. Thanks to proactive actions of the law enforcement, an enemy agent who tried to blow up the regional Territorial Recruitment Center has been apprehended.
On 17 July, the woman was tasked by the occupiers to bring a backpack with an improvised explosive device into the administrative building at noon, when the number of people there was at its peak.
The Security Service uncovered the enemy's plan and detained the terrorist as she was heading to the military registration office with the bomb.
According to the investigation, the perpetrator is a 53-year-old woman from Volyn, recruited remotely by russian special services.
Following their instructions, the agent arrived in Odesa. First, she conducted reconnaissance near the regional Territorial Recruitment Center and then received the coordinates of a cache with a ready-made IED from her handler.
According to her cover story, the woman was to arrive at the military registration office to find out information about her supposedly missing nephew.
During the terrorist's arrest, a controlled explosion of the IED, disguised in a backpack, was conducted at a safe distance. Explosives experts from the National Police worked at the scene.
SSU investigators are preparing a notice of suspicion for the detainee under Articles 15.3 and 258 of the CCU (attempted terrorist act).
The investigation is ongoing. The suspects faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region in cooperation with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
