Following SSU investigation, enemy agent who blew up prosecutor's car in Dnipro sentenced to 15 years in prison

Following an investigation by the Security Service of Ukraine, a russian special services agent who committed a terrorist attack against a prosecutor in Dnipro has been convicted to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The SSU and the National Police detained the agent and his accomplice 'in hot pursuit' on 6 June this year.

As a result of the attack, the law enforcement officer suffered minor injuries and his vehicle was completely destroyed.

The sentenced perpetrator is a 30-year-old resident of Poltava region, who was recruited by russia through Telegram channels offering 'easy money'.

On the instructions of his handler, the individual first established surveillance of the prosecutor and reported on his daily schedule and travel routes. The agent then planted an improvised explosive device under the prosecutor's car, photographed and filmed the aftermath of the attack.

The court found the accused guilty on several counts under the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • 28.2, 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law, by a group upon prior conspiracy);
  • 258.2 (completed attempt to commit a terrorist act);
  • 263.1 (illegal handling of explosive substances);
  • 263-1.1 (illegal manufacture of explosive substances and explosive devices)

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing regarding the accomplice of the convicted attacker.

The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
