NSATU Capability Sustainment Working Group Strengthens Support for Ukraine

Since the outset of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine has received more than 100,000 military platforms from its international partners. Sustaining this massive array of equipment requires unprecedented coordination between the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the NATO Alliance, and our defense industry partners.

Recognizing this critical challenge, HQ NSATU launched the Capability Sustainment Working Group (CSWG) in January 2025. This week, the 3rd NSATU coordinated CSWG convened in Rzeszów, Poland, bringing together experts to address sustainment issues across 34 critical capabilities currently employed by the AFU within the IAMD, Artillery, and Armoured Vehicle capability groups.

The CSWG gathered more than 200 participants from 32 organizations across 13 nations, creating a unique forum to identify solutions and share insights. Discussions focused on Ukraine's frontline sustainment constraints, particularly the urgent need for technical publications, spare parts, ammunition resupply, specialist tooling, and diagnostic equipment. Beyond basic maintenance, the group also explored ways to accelerate delivery timelines, improve contract transparency, and consolidate depot-level repairs capacity

A milestone of this meeting was the first-ever participation of Ukrainian industry representatives. They outlined domestic capabilities, voiced strong interest in expanding contracts partnerships, and demonstrated a clear commitment to joining the global effort to sustain Ukraine's defence.

The CSWG served as a vital forum for open and constructive dialogue in a collaborative and productive setting. The presence of DCOM NSATU underscored the importance of the event and reinforced NSATU's commitment to enhancing the combat effectiveness of the AFU's operational inventory. The next Capability Working Group is scheduled for September 2025.

Brigadier General Witold Bartoszek (Poland), Assistant Commander Support Division within HQ NSATU, summarized the event's impact: "This is one of the most important conferences in NSATU's continued support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We've seen innovative solutions from global defence industry partners this week, but also heard directly from the AFU about new problems they face. This proves why face-to-face engagement matters, and why NSATU has prioritised and expanded it over the last two years. We will continue to grow it, bringing in more mission partners to support the AFU and highlighting the opportunities to work hand-in-hand with Ukrainian industry on mission critical equipment."
