The SSU Counterintelligence has foiled a new attempt by russia's federal security service to carry out a terrorist attack in the frontline regions of Ukraine.

As a result of a special operation in Zaporizhzhia, two enemy agents were detained - they were preparing to blow up soldiers of the 12th Special Forces Brigade Azov of the National Guard of Ukraine.

The investigation established that on FSB's orders the perpetrators were to plant an improvised explosive device under the service vehicle of Azov soldiers.

The occupiers' orders were carried out by two individuals who had repeatedly served prison sentences for robbery and drug trafficking.

The repeat offenders came to russia's attention through the wife of one of them, who lives in the temporarily occupied Berdyansk and works for the enemy.

Following the instructions of the russian special services, the agents made the IED themselves and then tracked the car of Ukrainian defenders.

They were also to install a hidden camera with online broadcasting for the FSB at the site of the planned attack.

In this way, russian special services hoped to track the arrival of Azov servicemen to their car and remotely activate the bomb at that moment.

The SSU identified the agents at an early stage and detained them.

The finished IED, components for making new explosives, and the phones used to contact the FSB handler were seized during searches.

SSU investigators notified both detainees of suspicion under the Articles of the CCU:

  • 28.2, 111.2 (high treason, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy, under martial law);
  • 28.2, 263.1, 263.2 (illegal manufacture and storage of explosive substances without the permission required by law, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).

The suspects are in custody without bail and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The special operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor's Office.
