The German-Ukrainian Defense Industry Session DFNC2: German Edition took place in Kyiv for the second time. The event was organized by the Ministry for Strategic Industries, the Ukrainian Council of Defense Industry and the Federation of German Industries (BDI). The main goal of the event was to bring together German and Ukrainian companies to strengthen existing ties and find new promising ways of cooperation.
The event brought together representatives of 17 German defense companies and three associations, as well as more than 70 Ukrainian companies and associations. The event was also attended by representatives of the governments of the two countries.
Germany is a strategic partner for Ukraine's defense industry, said Minister for Strategic Industries Herman Smetanin. Three joint ventures between Ukrainian and German companies have been established in Ukraine. There are also successful cases of joint projects in the field of missile weapons, artillery, UAVs, air defense and other types of weapons. There are local offices and representative offices. Therefore, one of the topics for discussion was the exchange of cooperation experience, problems and ways to deepen the partnership.
"I am sincerely grateful to the representatives of the German defense industry for your interest in cooperation with the Ukrainian defense industry and for your real involvement in this process. We are already witnessing high results of this cooperation, and a number of projects are under development. We are eager to deepen our cooperation and expand our partnership with the German defense industry. This is the goal of the Second German-Ukrainian Defense Industry Session. I thank everyone who made this possible. I thank the representatives of the German Government and German industry for your visit, your support and cooperation. I am glad that the Ukrainian defense industry has such a strong partner," said Herman Smetanin.
"To win this war - in military, economic and technological terms - we need new forms of cooperation. Faster decision-making. Shorter development cycles. Shared risks and joint innovations. Ukrainian companies have demonstrated extraordinary resilience, ingenuity and determination. German companies have deep industrial capabilities, experience and scale. Together, we can create something more - not only for today's needs, but also for tomorrow's European defense architecture," said Matthias Wachter, Head of the Department of International Cooperation, Security, Defence, and Space Policy of the Federation of German Industries.
In the framework of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the Ukrainian Council of Defense Industry. The parties agreed to create a joint platform for the development of partnership between defense companies of Germany and Ukraine. The document is aimed at exchanging information, supporting cooperation, organizing joint projects and research, developing technologies and strengthening ties between business and government agencies of both countries to enhance security capabilities.
The discussions and documents' signings were followed by a B2B session, during which representatives of the companies discussed potential partnerships, promising areas of cooperation, and ways to overcome challenges.
