Minister for Strategic Industries German Smetanin held a working meeting with Minister of Defence of Norway Tore Onshuus Sandvik and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Norway Eirik Kristoffersen.
The parties discussed the current state of development of the Ukrainian defence industry: key trends, challenges and opportunities. They also touched upon the prospects for Ukrainian-Norwegian defence cooperation in the context of long-term partnership and joint initiatives.
In particular, they addressed the possibilities of producing alternative missiles that can be connected to the NASAMS air defence system with the support of the Norwegian Government.
"The Norwegian NASAMS system saves lives in Ukraine every day and plays a crucial role in protecting critical infrastructure. That is why it is important for the Government of Norway to fund the development of cheaper missiles for the NASAMS system in Ukraine," said the Norwegian Minister of Defence.
These words were reinforced by the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and one of the Ukrainian enterprises on the development and production of such air defence missiles in Ukraine.
German Smetanin thanked the Norwegian partners for their consistent support and practical readiness to develop strategic projects together with Ukraine.
"We are grateful to the Government of Norway for its leadership and initiative in strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities. Launching joint projects to produce air defence missiles in Ukraine is not just about technology or security, it is about trust and foresight. Norway is a true strategic partner, and we are ready to build a new level of defence cooperation together for the security of our country and the entire democratic world," said German Smetanin.
