The SSU Counterintelligence prevented illegal sale of the latest technologies of Ukraine's defense industry. As a result of an operation in Odesa, a representative of a private company has been detained for offering a bribe to obtain classified documentation on aviation developments.
The information in question concerns the modernization of onboard equipment for Ukrainian Armed Forces combat aircraft.
To obtain technical documentation and drawings of these designs, the perpetrator offered a bribe to an engineer at a local factory that carries out research and design work for the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.
The SSU documented the crime and caught the suspect red-handed while he was handing over the illegal benefit to the defense enterprise official.
The detainee has been notified of suspicion under Article 369.3 of the CCU (giving an illegal benefit to a public official).
The suspect faces up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. Efforts are underway to determine the motives for obtaining classified documents.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Odesa Office together with the National Police investigators under the procedural supervision of Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Southern Region.
