The SSU Counterintelligence and the National Police have detained an FSB agent who was about to carry out a contract killing in the Ukrainian capital on russia's orders.

To commit the crime, the killer received the coordinates of a safe house from his handler, from which he took a Makarov pistol and 50 rounds of ammunition.

According to the investigation, the enemy agent is a 33-year-old conscript who had left his military unit without permission and started working for the occupiers.

The russian special service noticed the deserter while he was absent from his unit without leave and started looking for easy money on Telegram.

After recruitment, the agent arrived in Kyiv, where, as a test task, he first set fire to several Defense Forces vehicles.

The killer was supposed to receive the identity of the potential murder victim from his handler after completing another task - conducting reconnaissance of a military unit in Kyiv.

Following the instructions of russia's federal security service, the asset rented an apartment near the military building. He then got a job as a courier for a delivery service to covertly monitor the perimeter of the defense facility.

The SSU acted quickly and detained the agent in hot pursuit after he set fire to a car. A loaded pistol and a phone used to contact the FSB were seized from the suspect's temporary home.

Now, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 114-1.1 of the CCU (obstruction of lawful activities of the AFU, during a special period). The decision on additional charges under Article 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law) is pending.

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
