The SSU Military Counterintelligence, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Commander of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained an enemy agent who was spying on the Defense Forces.
The perpetrator was preparing an air attack by russian forces on Ukrainian Neptune missile systems, which are keeping the coastal waters of the Black Sea under fire control.
According to the investigation, the enemy task was carried out by a 33-year-old serviceman recruited by the russian military intelligence ('the GRU').
The mole was to pass on the geolocation of the unit where he was serving and which was guarding Neptune anti-ship missile systems in southern Ukraine.
Once the coordinates were obtained, russia planned to launch a combined strike using kamikaze drones and cruise missiles.
Before the attack began, the handler was to warn the agent to move to a safe distance from the target.
The SSU Military Counterintelligence foiled the enemy's plans by exposing the mole in time and documenting his crime.
After protecting the locations of the Defense Forces, the Security Service detained the traitor while he was preparing to send intelligence to the occupiers.
During the investigation, it became known that the agent was also supposed to adjust russia's strike on the AFU training centers where he had previously undergone military training.
The mobilized man came to the GRU's attention after writing pro-russian comments in chatbots of the russian ministry of defence.
A phone with evidence of his work for the aggressor was seized from the suspect during searches.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Southern Region.
