The Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation exposed a former MP of a banned pro-russian party on tax evasion.

After acquiring Ukrainian citizenship in 2012, he continued his business activities in Ukraine and became a tax resident. However, contrary to the requirements of the tax legislation, he failed to declare the income received abroad and failed to pay personal income tax in the amount of over UAH 4.3 billion (USD 103 mln).

The individual received investment income in the amount of over UAH 25 billion, which at the time of sale amounted to several billion dollars, from the sale of investment assets - shares of foreign companies operating in the Republic of Cyprus.

This violation resulted in the actual non-receipt of funds to the State Budget of Ukraine in particularly large amounts.

The person in question was served a notice of suspicion under Article 212.3 of the CCU (tax evasion in especially large amounts).

The pre-trial investigation is carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent of a crime and may not be subject to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in line with the procedure defined by law and established by a relevant court's verdict.
