Today 9 October, the 11th meeting of Ukraine's donor platform was held, bringing together countries that contribute to Ukraine's reconstruction and rebuilding. In light of its contribution to Ukraine's reconstruction, Estonia is an observer in the donor platform. Estonia was represented by Undersecretary for Economic and Development Affairs Mariin Ratnik, who is coordinating non-military assistance to Ukraine.

The most critical issue on the agenda was joint action to restore Ukraine's critical needs, such as energy systems. Talks also covered continued support for Ukraine through reconstruction, bringing in investments, budgetary support and related reforms in Ukraine. Ukraine was represented by Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal; Minister of Finance Serhii Marchenko; Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development; and German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy, all underlining the critical need to support Ukraine's energy sector this winter due to the continued massive strikes by Russia against Ukraine's infrastructure.

"Ukraine's needs for financial aid remain great. At the same time, Ukraine has a remarkable ability to ensure the functioning of the economy in a state of war of aggression," Undersecretary Mariin Ratnik said. "The European Union has directed an additional €160 million to support Ukraine's energy sector and to restore its capacity," Ratnik added. "Estonia recently decided to support Ukraine's winterisation with an additional €514 000 through our strategic partners, the Estonian Refugee Council and Mondo. Estonia continues to assess various options for providing additional support to the operations of Ukraine's energy sector," Ratnik underlined.

Supporting Ukraine with humanitarian aid and reconstruction remains a foreign policy priority for Estonia. As part of this policy, new family homes built by Estonia for large families in Ukraine will be completed in December and several projects are underway, including the reconstruction of a hobby school in Malyn in the Zhytomyr Oblast and repairing an apartment building for internally displaced people in Ovruch. The implementation of projects is supervised by the Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV).
