On Wednesday, President Nausėda participated in the Ukraine Compact meeting in New York, held during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly at the invitation of U.S. President Joe Biden.
At the meeting, the Lithuanian President expressed full support for Ukraine's Peace Formula, stating that Lithuania would not back any proposals that undermine Ukraine's sovereignty or territorial integrity. The President stressed the need to step up support for Ukraine through military, political and economic means so that when the time comes for peace talks, Ukraine will feel strong and confident.
The Head of State stressed that Lithuania will continue to actively support Ukraine militarily, pointing out that Lithuania will invest 10 million euros in the production of Ukraine's long-range arms and urging partners from other countries to follow this example.
"In recent months, we have witnessed Russia systematically destroy Ukraine's energy system, so helping Ukraine's energy infrastructure is very important, especially as winter approaches. Lithuania is one of the largest donors, having already contributed over 63 million euros to Ukraine's energy sector," the President noted after the meeting.
Gitanas Nausėda also stressed the need to actively assist Ukraine in reconstruction efforts and reiterated Lithuania's readiness to continue its participation in various reconstruction projects, especially in the reconstruction of educational institutions.
The leaders of 31 countries attending the meeting signed a Joint Declaration of Support for Recovery and Reconstruction of Ukraine.
