In Switzerland, on the sidelines of the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, President Gitanas Nausėda met with Moldovan President Maia Sandu to discuss Moldova's Euro-integration process.
The President commended Moldova's progress in implementing the European Commission's recommendations and reaffirmed Lithuania's strong support for Moldova's aspirations to begin EU membership negotiations and become a full-fledged member of the EU. The Head of State emphasized that we aim to commence EU membership negotiations with both Moldova and Ukraine this month.
"Lithuania knows that the EU accession negotiations are a complex process, requiring human resources and specific knowledge. We are ready to provide Moldova with the necessary political and expert assistance," Gitanas Nausėda underlined.
The two leaders also discussed the security situation in the region. President Gitanas Nausėda stressed that Lithuania will continue to support Moldova in the field of security and defense, including through the European Peace Facility.
