On April 4 Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas met with Ambassador of Ukraine to Lithuania HE Petro Beshta. The meeting addressed key shared strategic goals of Lithuania and Ukraine and the most important of them, the assistance to Ukraine. According to Minister, it is the most pressing issue at the moment because Ukraine is facing shortage in ammunition and military equipment alike.

"The most important issues are assistance to Ukraine and promotion of military industry development which Ambassador and I have discussed. Lithuania is helping Ukraine to the top of its ability and we are looking for yet more ways to step up the assistance. Ambassador and I have also discussed the impact of drones in war and Lithuania's intent to promote drone and drone jamming equipment production, as well as Ukraine's ability to contribute," said Minister L. Kasčiūnas.

Other topics touched upon at the meeting were Lithuania's membership in the Latvian-led drone coalition. The possibility to buy unmanned aerial vehicles in the framework of the coalition and outside from Lithuanian manufacturers for transferring to Ukraine have been discussed. That way Lithuania would increase its drone industry and build on Ukraine's experience.

Minister and Ambassador then discussed the current affairs at the Lithuanian-coordinated demining coalition and contribution to other multilateral coalitions. For instance, Lithuania's input in the coalition launched by the Czech Republic for procuring and transferring ammunition to Ukraine.

Ambassador P. Beshta praised the initiatives for increasing aid to Ukraine. He also told about the numerous experienced Ukrainian drone manufacturers and their adaptability to technological advancement, which should be availed of on the Lithuanian industry side through cooperation. Ambassador spoke about the assistance to Ukraine and the nearest steps that Ukraine hoped to see in its partners.

The assistance Ukraine received from the National Defence System so far includes different weaponry, ammunition, UAVs, military training, heavy equipment repairs and every other kind of assistance based on Ukraine's request.

Lithuania has also approved a long-term assistance plan for Ukraine, a EUR 200 million worth of military assistance package in new acquisitions for Ukraine. Lithuania has already provided approx. EUR 605 million in assistance to Ukraine since the war was started.
