
Minister of National Defence L. Kasčiūnas virtually met with Minister of Defence of Ukraine R. Umerov

On March 27 Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas had a distance meeting with Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov.
"Continuation of the assistance to Ukraine is our strategic priority. Therefore Minister Umerov and I today have discussed military assistance to Ukraine, Ukraine's most urgent needs and our ability to aid quickly and which are the priority areas for that," said Minister L. Kasčiūnas.
The meeting which was also attended by Lithuanian and Ukrainian Chiefs of Defence General Valdemaras Rupšys and Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, respectively, addressed ammunition shortage and the necessity to energize the defence industry and joining in with international initiatives with production, procurement and stepping up weaponry and ammunition production volumes.
Ministers and Chiefs of Defence also discussed Lithuania's aim to support drone and drone jamming equipment production. Such Lithuania's decision is particularly of interest to Ukraine. The Ukrainians could contribute to the endeavor technologically and share experience on their battlefield characteristics.
Lithuania responded to Ukraine's appeal with 155mm ammunition delivery in early March and took a decision to allocate EUR 35 million to the Czech-led multinational initiative for ammunition acquisition and transfer to Ukraine.
The assistance rendered to Ukraine by the Ministry of National Defence includes different types of weaponry, ammunition, UAVs, drone jamming equipment, training assistance, heavy equipment repair, and every other kind of assistance we can based on Ukraine's requests.
Lithuania has approved a long-term assistance to Ukraine plan, a EUR 200 million new procurement package for military assistance to Ukraine has been approved for 2024-2026. Since the war was started, Lithuania has rendered approximately EUR 605 million in military aid to Ukraine.
