President Gitanas Nausėda on the international community on Friday called to unite in seeking the return of thousands of Ukrainian children abducted and forcibly deported by Russia to their families.
Addressing the First Meeting of the International Coalition of Countries for the Return of Ukrainian Children, the President emphasized that, through its actions, the Russian regime has attacked the unconditional love between children and their parents, violating the very sense of personal identity and breaching the most sacred norms of any human community.
Lithuania, together with the entire democratic world, stands in solidarity with Ukraine and demands that Russia immediately cease this crime and release the Ukrainian children.
"The entire international community has a duty to enable Ukraine's victory by supporting it both militarily and financially, as only Russia's defeat can bring closer the return of the abducted children," the President stated in his video address.
According to the President, the return of the children is only the first step. It is equally important to seek full accountability for the responsible actors. Lithuania will contribute to international efforts to ensure justice.
Gitanas Nausėda stressed that Lithuania firmly supports President Zelenskyy's 10-point plan as the path to building a just and lasting peace. Ukraine can rely on Lithuania's diplomatic, military, financial and humanitarian assistance to restore its full territorial integrity, safeguard energy security and ensure Russia's legal responsibility.
"Throughout the centuries, Ukraine has successfully resisted numerous attempts by Russia to deny and suppress its history, culture, and identity. Today I am certain it will prevail over the most recent aggression as well," the President said.
