President Gitanas Nausėda participates in a meeting of the European Political Community in Granada, Spain. On Thursday, the leaders of the European Union and partner countries discussed issues of security, strengthening resilience to global threats, and effective multilateralism.

In his address to the leaders of the European Political Community, the President said that Russia's war in Ukraine has changed the world. Gitanas Nausėda underlined the need to actively defend the values of democracy, the territorial integrity of countries, and the rules-based international order. According to the Lithuanian leader, the cooperation of European countries in various multilateral formats, especially in the organizations within the United Nations system, is very important.

According to Gitanas Nausėda, the current geopolitical context, emerging global threats and challenges necessitate greater coordination of actions between states. The President called for strengthening ties between the EU, NATO, and partner countries and exchanging best practices by making use of existing effective coordination instruments and programs, as well as maintaining and stepping up support for Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor. All this, President Gitanas Nausėda said, would contribute to ensuring security and stability as well as energy independence, and to the common fight against cyber threats and Russian disinformation and propaganda.

"We have a shared responsibility to counter Russia's aggression and, together, to address security, economic and social challenges it poses. We should also closely follow China's actions in the international arena. We have to stand guard over international order, democracy, and human rights," the President pointed out.

Gitanas Nausėda stressed the need for unity among the countries of the European Political Community on the issue of sanctions against Russia and Belarus, as well as for joint efforts to hold Russia accountable for war crimes and the crime of aggression in Ukraine.

The third meeting of the European Political Community brings together 47 European heads of state, as well as the presidents of the European Commission and the European Council.
