Foreign Minister Landsbergis: "We have to plan for the victory of Ukraine. It is not a passage in European history but a new chapter being written, and it is very much on us how this chapter will end - with more security on the continent or less"

On 30-31 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis attended an informal meeting of European Union Foreign Affairs Ministers (Gymnich) organized by the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which runs from 1 July to 31 December 2023.
"This informal ministerial meeting is a good opportunity to openly and freely discuss the EU's goals. We have to plan for the victory of Ukraine. It is not just about that we are feeling tired. It is not a passage in European history but a new chapter being written. Now we are entering into a period of war, and it is very much on us as well how this chapter will end - with more security and prosperity on the continent or less," Landsbergis said during a meeting with the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
During the meeting, EU foreign ministers discussed the EU's security commitments and long-term support to Ukraine, the EU's involvement in implementing the peace formula presented by Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelenski, efforts to mobilize global support for Ukraine and issues of Russia's accountability.
The meeting focused also on the situation in Niger and the Sahel region. Foreign ministers explored EU financial, security, and development support, as well as the destabilizing influence of Russian disinformation operations and Wagner on African countries in a discussion with Niger's Foreign Minister Hassoumi Massaoudou and representatives of the Economic Community of West African States - Omar Alieu Touray and Abdel-Fatau Musah.
