
The President: Ukraine's future is in NATO

On Wednesday, President Gitanas Nausėda participated in the inaugural meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council.
The President welcomed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine and underscored the heroic fight of all Ukrainians for the sovereignty and freedom of their country.
Gitanas Nausėda assured that Lithuania, which started delivering assistance to Ukraine even before the Russian military aggression, would continue to deliver all available support, including military. The President outlined Lithuania's long-term support plan for Ukraine, which includes military support, rehabilitation for wounded soldiers and assistance in defense reforms.
The President pointed out that all members of the NATO-Ukraine Council are equal and will address common security challenges in consultation on an equal footing. "The NATO-Ukraine Council must be a key forum and tool on Ukraine's path to NATO membership. Ukraine's future is in NATO and we cannot delay any longer this long-standing promise. Decisions must be implemented. Promises must be kept," the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda underlined Ukraine's tremendous progress on the path of reform and interoperability with NATO, despite the ongoing war.
The President reiterated Lithuania's strong support for the establishment of a Special International Tribunal to investigate Russian aggression and war crimes.
"Our collective goal is sustainable peace and stability in Europe. Fully anchoring and integrating Ukraine into the Euro-Atlantic security architecture is an indispensable prerequisite for it. Ukraine can count on Lithuania's unwavering support on its path to NATO membership," the President said.
