"Historical NATO decisions have been taken in Vilnius, they will even more strengthen the security and defence of Lithuania and the whole of Alliance," said Minister of National Defence on July 11 at the NATO Defence Ministers session during the Vilnius NATO Summit which addressed implementation of the decisions taken by Heads of State and Government at the Summit.

In a discussion on the approved regional defence plans, Minister A. Anušauskas noted the importance of the speed of implementation and assignment of the necessary capabilities. Ministers agreed to work with one accord to ensure that the defence plans are implemented by the end of the year. NATO will dedicate 300 000 high readiness military personnel, including significant air and naval combat force, to deliver on the defence plans and ensure defensibility of every inch of the Alliance territory.

The Defence Ministers session also addressed implementation of a bigger ambition in defence investment - NATO Heads of State and Government approved in Vilnius the common Allies' commitment to invest no less than 2% of GDP in defence annually.

NATO Defence Ministers also discussed further support to Ukraine and building up its integration with NATO. In addition, Defence Ministers welcomed the greenlighted accession of Sweden and the growing and tightening NATO partnership with Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea, in such areas as cybersecurity, maritime security and new technologies.
