Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jonatan Vseviov and his Latvian and Lithuanian counterparts met with US President Joe Biden's National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan to discuss NATO's upcoming summit in Vilnius and European security.
At the meeting with Sullivan, Vseviov underlined that Estonia's aim at NATO's Vilnius summit is to give Ukraine a clear roadmap for joining the Alliance. "In addition to full political and practical support to Ukraine, we must move forward with the issue of NATO membership, because it is the only sufficient security guarantee for Ukraine in the future," Vseviov said.
He said Ukraine's membership was the foundation for the security of Europe as a whole because grey areas in Russia's neighbourhood did not work. "The NATO summit must also highlight the continued threat posed by Russia and unequivocally condemn the aggression," Vseviov said.
They also discussed the continued reinforcement of NATO's deterrence and defence posture, increasing defence spending and Sweden's accession into NATO.
