Today, on 31 May, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jonatan Vseviov, hosted the Polish Secretary of State, Arkadiusz Mularczyk. They held political consultations and visited the Tapa Army Base.

The secretary general and the secretary of state mainly discussed the security situation in Europe and Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine. "Estonia and Poland have been the biggest supporters of Ukraine since the beginning of the war, and we also intend to cooperate closely in the reconstruction of Ukraine. Our reconstruction projects must meet all the requirements of the European Union, because Ukraine's future is linked to the European Union," said Vseviov.

Expectations for the NATO Summit in Vilnius were discussed at length, and it was agreed that one of the outcomes must be clear progress towards Ukraine's accession to NATO.

Both Estonia and Poland also prioritise holding Russia legally accountable: "We must help to ensure that not only war crimes but also crimes of aggression committed by the Russian ruling elite do not go unpunished. Putin must not be allowed to hide behind the immunity of a head of state," Vseviov stressed.

The close relations between the two countries were also discussed. "We have a strong relationship with Poland and a similar perspective on many issues. We will continue to focus on strengthening defence and economic cooperation," said Vseviov.

In the second half of the day, they visited the Tapa Army Base, where they were given an overview of Estonia's defence capabilities and got acquainted with military equipment.
