Today 11 May, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna met with Ukraine's special representative Anton Korynevych. The main topic of the meeting was the creation of a special international tribunal for the crime of aggression that would make it possible to prosecute Russia's leadership.
The foreign minister recognised the recent strong statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the International Criminal Court in The Hague emphasising the importance of establishing an international special tribunal.
Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna also said it was crucial to achieve political support for establishing the international special tribunal and maximum consensus across regions. "The aim of creating an international tribunal is to prosecute Russia's leadership, which has unleashed this war of aggression. An international special tribunal would also make it possible to prosecute national leaders that are in office," the minister emphasised.
Tsahkna added that Estonia welcomed the creation of an investigative centre for the crime of aggression in The Hague for international cooperation on collecting evidence about the crime of aggression and preserving them outside Ukraine. "It is also the first step towards establishing an international special tribunal," he added.
