On Friday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with Andriy Kostin, Prosecutor General of Ukraine. The meeting focused on Russia's accountability for war crimes in Ukraine and the establishment of a special tribunal to investigate the crime of aggression.

During the meeting, the President stressed that the only way to stop Russian imperialism is for Ukraine to win. The Lithuanian leader underlined that peace had to be achieved on terms acceptable to Ukraine and that Russia's accountability for war crimes and crimes of aggression committed in Ukraine was essential. According to Gitanas Nausėda, only by bringing accountability for the atrocities committed can their repetition be prevented in the future.

The President pointed out that consistent collection of evidence was essential to hold the aggressor accountable, and welcomed the efficient work of the joint investigation team established on the initiative of Lithuania, Ukraine and Poland to document Russia's crimes in Ukraine.

"Lithuania will continue to actively support Ukraine's idea to establish a special tribunal to investigate the crime of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Anyone who has committed crimes in Ukraine or who has given orders to commit them must be brought to justice," President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized.
