Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki met with European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton in Nowa Dęba. The meeting focused on the joint purchase of ammunition by EU countries and on increasing the production capacity of the Polish arms industry. The two topics were raised by the head of the Polish government at the European Council meeting. Poland will receive the most funds from the European Peace Facility (EPF) for the purchase of ammunition and military equipment. A strengthened arms industry, larger stocks of ammunition and modern equipment will directly strengthen Poland's defence potential.

Joint purchases of ammunition by European countries

Poland has teamed up with other European Union countries for joint purchases of ammunition. This international initiative is very important today, as it will make it possible to purchase more at a better price. This will directly result in a more effective strengthening of our security.

"We have had many discussions in the European Union, in Brussels, on this subject. Together with other countries, we will buy these munitions mainly with European money," said the head of government.

The visit of the Commissioner for Internal Market is above all an opportunity to agree and discuss the details of the implemented decisions. Commissioner Thierry Breton expressed his gratitude to Poland for the tremendous effort the country is putting into supporting Ukraine. He stressed that all of Europe is grateful to us for what we have done and continue to do not only for Ukraine, but also for the whole of Europe.

Polish arms factories have enormous potential

We are investing in the defence potential of our country. Buying military equipment of Polish manufacture - heavy equipment, weapons, but also ammunition - is a pillar of strengthening our armed forces. We have highly specialised plants in Poland capable of producing modern weapons. We are investing in their development, buying their products for our army and expanding exports.

"We have excellent expertise in the production of arms, ammunition. I am glad that with European money - following an arrangement with Commissioner Thierry Breton - we will be able to multiply this production. This use of the European funds constitutes an increase in security," stressed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

The meeting between the head of the Polish government and Commissioner Thierry Breton took place at one of the factories which produces ammunition for, among others, the Polish Krab self-propelled howitzer. Zaklady Metalowe DEZAMET S. A. is a company that is part of the Polish Armaments Group. The company, which employs almost 700 people, is one of the leading employers in the region.

Since 2019, the plant has expanded its production and storage infrastructure and purchased modern machinery and equipment. This has enabled the production of medium and large calibre ammunition. The currently implemented development strategy of DEZAMET S.A. for 2022-2026 envisages further development of the production potential and increased sales.

European Instrument for Peace

Polish diplomacy has long emphasised internationally that the war in Ukraine is also a fight for our freedom and for the stability and security of Europe as a whole. Today, our actions are turning into real decisions. The European Union will financially support the production and arms purchases of, among others, our country.

"I am pleased that the whole of NATO and the European Union are aware of this, and the best evidence of this is the joint programme for arms purchases and the joint programme for the production of munitions, for which Poland has been striving for many months. Our efforts have been crowned with great success," concluded the head of the Polish government.

Poland will be the largest beneficiary of European funds from the European Peace Facility.
