Meeting at ZVS Holding's headquarters in Dubnica nad Váhom on Wednesday 22 March 2023, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď along with members of the company's Executive Leadership Team (ELT) met EU Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton for talks on opportunities to ramp up munitions manufacturing for Ukraine. During his visit to ZVS Holding, EU Commissioner Breton was briefed on the state of the SVK defence industry's armaments production capacities and capabilities and the needs to expand them to meet the shortfalls in munitions.

Following the talks with EU Commissioner Thierry Breton, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: "Slovakia fully supports the European initiative to speed up joint procurement and deliveries of munitions for Ukraine - this all comes as part and parcel of the measures to boost the output of the European defence industry. Whilst our defence industry is ready to contribute towards this effort, the EU has the tools to motivate the industry to scale up munitions production. And here we are talking about the need for considerable investment."

A survey on the EU defence industry's munitions output, conducted by the European Defence Agency (EDA), has revealed that there are 15 munitions manufacturers, based in 11 EU member countries including in Slovakia, which produce 155mm rounds of artillery ammunition. The European Commission has openly communicated its intent to visit some of the munitions manufacturing sites. "This also testifies to the quality of the Slovak defence industry and its companies that have a stable place on the map of Europe," Minister Naď concluded.
