President Gitanas Nausėda, who is visiting Norway, met with President of the Storting Masud Gharahkhani on Monday to discuss bilateral relations, the security situation in the region and Russia's war against Ukraine.
The President stressed that the coming months of Russia's aggression in Ukraine will be decisive and that the size and speed of allied military support are therefore critically important. Gitanas Nausėda welcomed Norway's decision to supply tanks to Ukraine together with other countries.
"Lithuania has been providing military support to Ukraine since before the start of the war and will continue to do so until victory. Currently, official state-supported assistance to Ukraine amounts to around 785 million euros. In addition, Lithuanian citizens make personal contributions by generously donating and supporting Ukrainians in their fight for freedom. We hope that together with our allies we will do everything we can to help Ukraine achieve victory as soon as possible and bring peace back to Europe," the President said.
The meeting also focused on the situation in Lithuania's neighboring country Belarus. The President pointed out that Belarus acted as a proxy in Russia's war against Ukraine and should therefore be put under increased economic pressure and sanctions.
