On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, to discuss bilateral cooperation, regional security, assistance to Ukraine, as well as preparations for the NATO summit in Vilnius next July. The President also expressed his support for Sweden's aspirations to join the Alliance.

"We must help the Ukrainians to win this brutal war because only victory will bring lasting security and stability to Europe. Sustained long-term military and economic assistance to Ukraine is a crucial factor, especially in the coming months when a major assault by the aggressor Russia is expected. The much-needed first decisions by allies to supply Ukraine with heavy armaments for defense have already been taken, but now we must increase and expand their delivery," the President said.

Gitanas Nausėda underlined the importance of NATO's troop presence in the Baltic States to ensure regional security and defense capabilities. According to the President, Sweden could become an integral part of this mission and could eventually join NATO's Baltic Air Policing together with Finland.

Gitanas Nausėda emphasized the need to deepen and expand economic and scientific contacts between the two countries through integration into supply chains and major EU projects. The President said that he expected an agreement on sharing surplus electricity revenues to be reached in the near future between the relevant Lithuanian and Swedish authorities.

The President and the Prime Minister discussed the priorities set by the Swedish EU Presidency for solidarity-based comprehensive support for Ukraine, including its accession to the EU, the extension of sanctions against Russia and Belarus, and the use of the Kremlin's frozen funds to rebuild Ukraine.

The meeting also focused on the EU economy and its resilience, the development of industry, including the defense sector, the strengthening of internal and energy markets, and the need to fight attempts by authoritarian regimes to instrumentalize migration.
