Tehran (ISNA) - Iran's Foreign Minister hosted the 18th general assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA), during which the managing director of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) took over as secretary general of the assembly for three years.

During the meeting, held with the presence of dozens of directors of news agencies participating in the general assembly of OANA, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian commended the former secretary general of the general assembly of OANA and wished success for the incoming secretary general of the union.

He described OANA as an important basis and potential to create a news balance in the world and to counter the unilateral news-making in the modern world and underlined the necessity of further media cooperation among member countries of the union.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the foreign minister talked about the significant and growing capacity of Asia in different fields and the special attention of the 13th administration to the continent, and outlined some foreign policy approaches and viewpoints of the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi.

The top Iranian diplomat said the war in Ukraine and the anti-Iran accusations by the western side is one of the topics of the day in foreign policy stressing, just as Iran has opposed the wars and displacement of people in Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Iraq, the stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran opposing the war in Ukraine and displacement in the country has also been clearly announced since day one of the conflict.

Amir-Abdollahian also touched on Iran's efforts to mediate in the Ukraine war and end it and the continuation of those efforts.

"We have diverse cooperation with Russia, including in the field of defense and will continue to do so, and accordingly, in the past we have received defensive equipment and weapons from Russia, or delivered such stuff to the country," he noted.

"In spite of this, and in line with our fixed and principled policy, we have been against the Ukraine war and arming of either side of the conflict. Therefore, we have given Russia no weapons for use in the war in Ukraine."

The top diplomat added that Iran, through the foreign policy chief of the European Union, has declared its readiness for a meeting between technical teams of Iran and Ukraine so that any possible evidence on the use of Iranian drones against Ukraine could be tabled, and if during the meeting their claim is proven, "we will not remain indifferent", though Russian officials have reiterated that the equipment used in the war against Ukraine are Russian-made.

Amir-Abdollahian talked about achievement of a common roadmap to respond to the questions of the International Atomic Energy Agency in a technical fashion and without deviation, openly declaring that Iran does not accept to have several baseless open cases, filed based on accusations, with the IAEA, even after agreement and acceptance of large-scale supervision by the agency.

The Iranian foreign minister also talked about the agreement with the US on prisoners swap.

Amir-Abdollahian also condemned foreign interference in stoking and supporting some riots and even terrorist measures inside Iran and described them as against the diplomatic approach championed by such countries and their officially-sent messages.

The foreign minister reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to reach a good, strong and lasting agreement.

Amir-Abdollahian also advised the American side to end its contradictory remarks and behavior and avoid hypocritically denying what is going on in the messages being exchanged and indirect negotiations.

During the meeting, in addition to the foreign minister, former secretary of the general assembly of OANA Joon-Seung Lee, Ali Naderi the new secretary general of the union as well as Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani also addressed the participants.
