Taipei, July 10 (CNA) Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) denied Sunday that the country has provided Ukraine with 60 millimeter mortar shells, as reported in a recent article by a Ukrainian news agency.
The news report was false and the shells included in the article use a different system of serial numbers to the one employed by the Republic of China (Taiwan) military, the MND said in a statement.
The MND said that Taiwan supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and opposes any use of military threat to change the status quo or violence toward the people of Ukraine.
Military aid to any country is conducted in accordance with Taiwan's overall foreign affairs policy and in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MND said.
The Ukrainian article included a photograph of 60 millimeter mortar shells on which can be seen traditional Chinese characters, the same script as that used in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, and reported the shells were donated by Taiwan.
