Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Wednesday the country needs its own rocket and ammunition manufacturing capabilities.
KIEV (Sputnik) – "The head of state also noted the need to create the production of missiles and ammunition production in Ukraine," Poroshenko's press office said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the country's National Security and Defense Council prioritized the production of new military equipment and weapons for 2016.
Poroshenko ordered the state-run defense trust Ukroboronprom to develop and purchase rocketry this year, including new artillery systems, precision missiles and ammunition, anti-tank missiles, new automation tools for artillery units and automated surveillance systems.
The press service noted that Poroshenko focused particularly on unmanned aerial vehicles, including attack drones, as well as next-generation armored vehicles, communication devices, navigation equipment, and space exploration materials and technologies.
He was quoted as saying the state orders of scarce munitions should "not only be slogans and appeals," but based on specific deadlines with the necessary funding.
