Kiev has claimed that a Russian air force jet shot down a Ukrainian warplane over its territory without any casualties.
Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council on Thursday said, 'A military plane from the air force of the Russian Federation carried out a rocket strike on a Ukrainian air force Su-25.''
It added that the plane was brought down on Wednesday night and that the pilot of the downed fighter plane was able to eject and was later evacuated by Ukraine's military.
On Tuesday, 11 people were killed in a Ukrainian army airstrike on a residential building in the eastern Donetsk region.
The air raid destroyed an apartment block in eastern Ukrainian city of Snizhne on Tuesday.
On Sunday, an artillery shell fired from Ukraine hit a residential area in Russia's Rostov region, killing one person and injuring two others.
The Russian Rostov region has recently seen over a dozen shells hitting the area, which borders Ukraine's eastern Lugansk region, where Ukrainian troops are fighting pro-Russian forces.
Ukraine's mainly Russian-speaking parts in the east have witnessed deadly clashes between pro-Russia protesters and the Ukrainian army since mid-April.
Violence intensified in May after Ukraine's eastern regions of Donetsk and Lugansk held local referendums, in which their residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of independence from Ukraine.
Hundreds of people have been killed in the ongoing military campaign in Ukraine, which has also forced tens of thousands to escape to Russia, with the majority arriving to the Russian Rostov region.
