Self-defense forces take all serviceable weapons out of Slavyansk
8 July 2014, 08:02 -- The chief of staff of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) self-defense forces that defended Slavyansk announced that all serviceable weapons had been taken out of the city. He said to Interfax that he was personally responsible for this.
The chief of staff dismissed allegations that the rebel fighters in Slavyansk had modern combat equipment at their disposal. 'Out of our three Nona self-propelled guns, one was captured from the enemy and another is out of order. We also possessed anti-tank guided missiles (ATGM) whose expiry date is in 2001. Only one out of our five hand mortars is in operable condition. We also have anti-tank rifles of the WW2 period,' the self-defense forces' chief of staff said.
He also said that it is too soon to speak of the number of self-defense fighters who intend to defend Donetsk. 'All fighters are to take the oath of the DPR army commanded by Igor Strelkov,' the chief of staff said.
