Ukraine army puts minefields outside Slavyansk, casualties among civilians reported

23 June 2014, 18:02 -- Ukrainian government forces have put minefields outside Slavyansk in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, said the defense minister of the Donetsk People's Republic.

'The enemy has put out extensive combined minefields consisting of uncontrolled personnel mines of various modifications (mainly OZM-72) around Slavyansk - west and north of the city, from where, apparently, no resolute attack is being planned,' Igor Girkin (Strelkov) said in a statement posted on the Facebook page of the Donetsk People's Republic leader, Pavel Gubarev, Interfax reports.

'There already are fatalities among local civilians,' the statement said without stating the alleged death toll or describing the circumstances of the supposed killings.

Strelkov also said there had been a battle in the vicinity of the village of Dolyna.

'Last night one of our partisan groups attacked enemy forces in the vicinity of : Dolyna. Two armored personnel carriers were hit by grenades fired by launchers, and rifle fire inflicted losses on the special forces personnel who were in the armored vehicles : Besides the 2 above-mentioned APCs, this valiant group has on its record 1 armored infantry fighting vehicle that was hit at a checkpoint in the vicinity of the [village] of Yatske, 1 Ural [truck], which was ambushed, and 1 Hummer vehicle, which was blown up with a mine on the same road,' Strelkov said.

'New [Sukhoi] Su-25 air support aircraft have arrived at an airfield in Mariupol.
