Moscow refuses to deal with acting Ukrainian FM Deshchytsa - Lavrov
16 June 2014, 18:54 -- Ukraine's Acting Foreign Minister Andrei Deshchytsa is perceived in Russia as a renegade. 'For us Deshchytsa is a renegade. By looking at him one recalls a good expression: if you do not know how to drink, then don't,' Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Russian reporters in Belgrade on Monday. Moreover, the Russian Foreign Ministry has demanded that the Ukrainian leadership take measures to guarantee security for the Russian diplomatic missions in Ukraine.
'We demand that the Ukrainian leadership take all necessary measures to guarantee security to the Embassy and to the consulates general in Odesa, Kharkov and Lvov, and create conditions for their normal work. Responsibility for this rests entirely with the Ukrainian authorities,' the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also said that 'serious damage was done to the Russian embassy's building and property on June 14 in an illegal action, which was not dealt with adequately by the Ukrainian law enforcement services.'
'Provocative actions took place on June 16 near the buildings of the Russian consulates general in Odesa and Kharkov,' the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
FM Lavrov accuses Ukrainian acting interior minister of connivance with extremists
The behavior exhibited by Ukrainian acting interior minister Arsen Avakov in the rampage in front of the Russian Embassy in Kiev was an act of connivance with the actions of extremists, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. 'Instead of ordering the police, policemen, to stop the act of vandalism against our Embassy, the interior minister made a comment, which said that the [action] was certainly not good but the people were indignant,' Lavrov told a press conference in Minsk.
'In my opinion, this is not an interior minister but a person conniving in riots and open demonstrations of extremism, moreover with Nazi symbols,' the minister noted.
