Ukraine's army opens mortar fire on community near Lugansk - self-defense
16 June 2014, 12:44 -- Ukraine's government forces opened mortar fire on the Metallist community, located several kilometers from Lugansk, overnight to Monday, according to the press-service of the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR). The spokesperson added there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian government forces and the people's militia reportedly took positions on the banks of the river Seversky Donetsk, TASS reports.
The town of Shchastie, which Ukrainian government forces seized last Saturday, is still under the control of the National Guard.
Head of Lugansk People's Republic Valery Bolotov told a news conference on Sunday the LPR lost 100 people in hostilities on Friday and Saturday.
'There were both civilians and people's militia fighters among the casualties,' he said.
