Military operation will continue until total normalization in East Ukraine - acting defense minister

30 May 2014, 12:20 -- Ukraine's acting defense minister, Mikhail Koval, has announced that the military operation in the east of the country will continue until the situation in the region is brought back to normal entirely. 'We will continue to work until this region starts to live a normal life again,' Koval said at a press briefing on Friday.

The operation will go on until Ukraine's eastern territories are liberated from militiamen and until the country's security agencies, including the Interior Ministry and the Security Service, resume their functioning there, the acting minister said.

A key task facing Armed Forces units involved in this operation is to restore peace and stability in Ukraine's eastern regions, Koval said.

Security services have been responding to all challenges and have been doing their best to prevent any destabilization in other parts of the country, he added.

Kiev must stop fratricidal war, start real nation-wide dialogue - Moscow

Moscow is concerned that the situation in eastern Ukraine is escalating and demands that the Kiev authorities stop the war, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday. 'Yet again we demand the Kiev authorities stop the war of kith-and-kin and start real nation-wide dialogue with all political forces and representatives of the country's regions to search ways for Ukraine to overcome the deepest crisis,' the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.

'Russia expresses deep concern due to further escalation of the situation in eastern Ukraine,' the document said.

Ukrainian people pushed into fratricidal war - FM Lavrov

The Ukrainian people are being pushed into a fratricidal war, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. 'The West tried to use Ukraine not as a uniting link on European territory, but as a watershed,' Lavrov noted. 'Those who advocated such a policy did not worry about it that much,' he added.

'The elections in Ukraine should put an end to violence and serve as a start of dialogue,' the foreign minister stressed, TASS reports.
