Poroshenko wants military operation in southeastern Ukraine to continue in new format
26 May 2014, 13:57 -- Petr Poroshenko, who is leading in the Ukrainian presidential election, has said the army operation in southeastern Ukraine should continue in a changed format. 'I support the continuation of this [army operation] but I demand a new format,' Poroshenko said at a press briefing on Monday.
He noted the operation 'should be made more efficient and held within a shorter period of time' and the servicemen should have better armaments and equipment.
'The operation cannot and will not last for two or three months. It should and will last for [several] hours,' Poroshenko said.
The presidential candidate emphasized that the first moves of the new Ukrainian authorities will target higher combat capacities of the Ukrainian army and law enforcement agencies. 'Then we will see a very rapid improvement of the efficiency of the operation,' he said.
Poroshenko said the operation efficiency would become tangible very soon. 'We will able to see its efficiency shortly,' he said.
