Right Sector attacks pro-federalization activists near Slavyansk - self-defense forces
3 May 2014, 14:44 -- Active clashes are taking place near the Ukrainian city of Slavyansk, a self-defense forces representative, who introduced himself as Vladislav, told journalists.
'Right Sector militants and National Guard soldiers are currently carrying out attacks near the Druzhkivka district,' the representative said. He also clarified that the locals are 'almost without weapons,' and there are no checkpoints.
In addition, according to Vladislav, the battle is taking place somewhere near Kramatorsk, RIA reports.
The Ukrainian army keeps gathering around Slavyansk with armored vehicles, the activist reported, adding that the Right Sector gunmen are getting inside the city under the guise of local residents.
Ukrainian military forces launched early Friday a full-scale assault on the eastern city of Slavyansk in the Donetsk region, the focal point of pro-federalization rallies. Casualties were reported.
Moscow condemned the recent outbreak of violence in the country and called the military operation initiated by Kiev authorities a punitive action which destroyed the last hope for the April 17 Geneva accords.
