Right Sector arrives in Slavyansk to suppress protests

13 April 2014, 14:25 -- Militants from the radical group Right Sector have come to the city of Slavyansk in eastern Ukraine to take part in a force operation against protesters who had occupied several government buildings in the city.

These protesters are demanding that Ukraine should be a federative state with more autonomy for its regions.

In a phone talk with Russian RIA Novosti news agency, the coordinator of the movement 'The Russian Sector – Ukraine' Vladimir Karasyov, who is now in Lugansk, another city in eastern Ukraine, said: 'Information has come from Slavyansk that about 150 men in black uniform, looking very much like members of 'The Right Sector', appeared at the local airdrome.'

Ukraine's ultra-right nationalist leader orders mobilization of Right Sector militants

Dmitry Yarosh, leader of Ukraine's Right Sector ultra-right nationalist and Ukrainian presidential candidate, has ordered mobilization of Right Sector militants as pro-federalization protests sweep southeastern Ukraine.

Yarosh, who is wanted in Russia for crimes committed against Russian soldiers in Chechnya in 1994-95, said in a video statement circulated on Saturday: 'Considering the current situation, I order all of the Right Sector structures to conduct full mobilization and prepare for decisive actions to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.'

Yarosh urged law enforcement forces 'not to block Right Sector's efforts', but help it restore law and order in Ukrainian regions.

He accused the central authorities and the Interior Ministry of failing to respond to the events in southeastern Ukraine.
