The process of Crimea's integration into Russia will continue as scheduled, the chairman of Crimea's State Council (parliament) says.

At a meeting with Russia's State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin on Saturday, Vladimir Konstantinov said, "Crimea has gone away from politics and is all in work now," adding, "People take all problems of the transitional period with understanding."

Konstantinov said the necessary measures have been taken to speed up the work.

"The deadlines set out in the plans will be met," he noted. "We are getting substantial financial aid and all financial problems are being solved."

Naryshkin, for his part, emphasized that Crimea's reunification with Russia "is a great pivotal event in world history."

Crimea's transitional period will go on until January 1, 2015. All issues related to the integration of the new constituent members -- the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol as a city of federal significance -- into the economic, financial, credit and legal systems of Russia will be resolved during the period.

The official currency in Crimea will be the Russian rouble, however, the Ukrainian hryvnia will be used along with the rouble until 2016.

Crimea declared independence from Ukraine on March 17 and formally applied to become part of Russia. This came on the heels of a referendum a day earlier, in which 96.8 percent of Crimeans voted for reunion with Russia.

On March 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law documents that officially made the Black Sea peninsula part of the Russian territory despite condemnation from the West and the new Ukrainian government.

The move sparked angry reactions from the United States and the European Union, both imposing punitive measures against a number of Russian officials and authorities in Crimea.
