Referendum on Sevastopol's annexation to Russia to be held on March 16

6 March 2014, 22:24 -- Sevastopol city council has ordained to hold a referendum on Sevastopol's annexation to Russia on March 16. Forty nine deputies out of 50 presented in the boardroom voted for this decision. Sevastopol city council has also included two questions of the Crimea's referendum that will also be held on March 16.

Thus, the voters are to answer three questions of the referendum:

1) Whether you support the annexation of Sevastopol to the Russian Federation?

2) Whether you support the Crimea and Russia reunion?

3) Whether your support the reestablishment of the Crimea's constitution of 1992 and the Crimea's status as a part of Ukraine?

The deputies of the city council have appointed a commission to hold the referendum. Valery Medvedev has become chairman of the commission.

Sevastopol citizens, gathered at the building of the city council, approved the decision to hold a referendum. When Sevastopol mayor Alexey Chalyi left the building, Sevastopol citizens rose in applause and shouted: "Sevastopol, the Crimea, Russia."

"We have been waiting for this moment for 21 years!" Chalyi said.

People continue to come on the Lenin Street, where the city council is situated. Transport movement is blocked. Citizens are swinging the flags of Russia and Sevastopol, congratulating each other and singing the anthem. Passing cars are signaling, greeting people.

A referendum on the Crimea's status is scheduled on March 16.

The Supreme Council of the Crimea has decided to annex Ukraine to Russia as its territory. The Crimea's constitution of 1992 stipulates that the Crimea, being a republic, is a part of Ukraine, but in defines its relationships with the country by means of the contract and agreements.

The ballot-paper are printed in Russian, Ukrainian languages and the language of the Crimea's Tatars. The Supreme Council of the Crimea has turned to Russian president and Russian Federal Assembly to begin the procedure of the Crimea's annexation to the Russian Federation.

Afterwards, Alwexander Turchinov, Ukrainian president, appointed by the Verkhovna Rada, stated that the referendum was illegal and Ukrainian parliament would do everything to dismiss The Supreme Council of the Crimea.
