Russia has informed its partners at the Russia-NATO Council about dangerous trends in the development of the situation in Ukraine and will continue to explain its position on the matter, Russian Permanent Representative at NATO Alexander Grushko said in Brussels on Friday.
'We turned the attention of our partners in the Russia-NATO Council to the danger of the destabilization of the situation in Ukraine and will continue to consistently explain our position,' Grushko said.
NATO meeting on Ukraine sign of 'Cold War' mentality – ambassador
The ambassadors of the 28-member North-Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will hold an emergency meeting at Poland's request on Tuesday to discuss the situation in Ukraine.
Russia's Permanent Representative to NATO Alexander Grushko has described it as a sign of 'Cold War' mentality.
'The Polish initiative to hold NATO consultations on Ukraine under Article 4 [of the North-Atlantic Treaty] fuels tensions and shows and 'Cold War'-style mentality is still on demand,' Grushko said in Brussels late on Monday.
Earlier the same day, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen wrote on Twitter that the NATO Council would meet on Tuesday within the framework of Article 4 on Poland's initiative with Ukraine being the only item on the meeting's agenda.
After that, the alliance's Brussels headquarters circulated a statement saying that the events in and around Ukraine constituted a threat for neighboring NATO member states and jeopardized security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic region.
Article 4 of the North-Atlantic Treaty stipulates consultations between the allies if any of them believes that its territorial integrity, political independence or security is threatened.
