Ukraine's President Victor Yanukovych intends to continue a dialogue with the opposition as an attempt to settle down the political crisis in the country.
This is what Ukraine's acting Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara said during a meeting with the heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine's capital Kiev on Wednesday.
On Wednesday night, President Yanukovych met with leaders of the Ukrainian opposition. He called on them to dissociate themselves from the most radical members of the opposition and to start talks with the government.
"Mr. Yanukovich believes that a dialogue with the opposition is the only way to stop the crisis," Mr. Kozhara said. "Within the last several weeks, the Ukrainian government has already proved that it is capable of compromises with its opponents."
On Wednesday, when the Ukrainian parliament gathered for a meeting, unrest in the streets of Kiev aggravated again. During this meeting, the parliamentary opposition demanded that more authority should be given to the parliament.
The aggressively-minded demonstrators in the street tried to get to the parliament's house. Some of the protesters rushed into houses in Kiev's center, set auto tires on fire and threw stones and bottles with "Molotov cocktail" at the police. According to the police, this Wednesday, the opposition used fire arms for the first time.
