Ukrainian Court Adjourns Tymoshenko Hearing
August 21, 2012
A Ukrainian high court hearing the appeal of jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko adjourned on August 21 to deliberate its decision.
Speaking at the end of the hearings, the judge did not say when the verdict would be delivered.
Tymoshenko's lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko, said he expected the ruling to be announced in mid-September.
Tymoshenko was sentenced to seven years in prison last October following her conviction in connection with natural gas deals with Russia when she was prime minister in 2009.
Supporters and rights groups say she is a victim of persecution by political enemies.
As many as 2,000 Tymoshenko supporters marched in Kyiv on August 21, demanding her immediate release.
