"Our aim is to establish a belt of peace in our region and beyond"
Presidency of The Republic of Turkey
04.07.2024
Addressing the 24th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, Kazakhstan, President Erdoğan said: "Our aim is to establish a belt of peace in our region and beyond with an enterprising diplomacy approach that centers on human beings and humanitarian values."
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the 24th SCO Summit in Astana.
"NEARLY 40 THOUSAND INNOCENT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED IN INDISCRIMINATE ATTACKS IN GAZA"
President Erdoğan said: "We are going through a period when the pillars of the rules-based international system are shaking. Such challenges as terrorism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, irregular migration and climate change as well as the disruptions in the food and energy security and supply chains aggravate the intensity of the geopolitical turbulence. The most recent and tragic example of this is taking place right before our eyes in occupied Palestinian lands, particularly in Gaza. Nearly 40 thousand innocent people have been killed in indiscriminate attacks in Gaza. About 90 thousand Palestinians have been wounded. The ruins under which more than 16 thousand innocent children died are essentially the wreckage of the international system that has lost its legitimacy. Israel must be stopped and forced to accept a lasting ceasefire in order to end this destruction. Therefore, the pressure on Israel must be increasingly continued."
"WE DRAW ATTENTION TO THE SHORTCOMINGS OF THE CURRENT INTERNATIONAL ORDER"
Stressing that there are also principled countries in the world that sincerely and devotedly speak up for global justice without giving into desperation in the face of all the crises plaguing the international order, President Erdoğan stated: "As Türkiye, we constantly draw attention to the shortcomings of the current international order. Despite all obstacles, we are working to build an effective international system where right makes might --not the other way around-- and which embraces the whole humanity, promotes peace, security, stability and prosperity, tackles economic disparities, and eliminates global injustices. Our aim is to establish a belt of peace in our region and beyond with an enterprising diplomacy approach that centers on human beings and humanitarian values. The world is faced with a threat of terror as well while going through these turmoils."
Reminding that Türkiye has lost tens of thousands of its citizens due to terror, President Erdoğan noted that they know well the bloody face of terror, and added: "Türkiye has fought against different forms and manifestations of terror, including terrorist organizations PKK, PYD, YPG, FETO and DAESH, for 40 years, and will continue to do so."
Underscoring that Türkiye's long years of experience in anti-terror fight shows that international cooperation is a must to eliminate this threat, President Erdoğan said: "In this regard, we stand ready to further strengthen our dialogue with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization."
"INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY SHOULD ACT WITH A SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY"
Stressing that international migration movements triggered by regional conflicts, political instabilities and poverty have become one of the fundamental vulnerabilities, President Erdoğan underscored that Türkiye has been hosting some 4 million displaced people, including Syrians under temporary protection, and went on to say: "We state at every opportunity that the international community should, too, act with a sense of responsibility. Humanitarian aid is one of the fundamental tools in combatting the problems we have mentioned. The one third of the aid supplies delivered to Gaza has been assumed by us as Türkiye. Our 20th train of benevolence carrying nearly 620 tons of humanitarian aid arrived in Afghanistan on June 12. Also, we have recently delivered 24 tons of food products and medication to Afghanistan by a cargo plane that belongs to the Turkish Air Forces. We are ready to create a joint synergy with you to that end as well."
"TÜRKİYE IS AN IMPORTANT POWER FACTOR AGAINST GLOBAL CHALLENGES"
President Erdoğan said: "Türkiye, as a commonsensical, problem-solving and a principled member of the international community, is an important power factor against global challenges. With our Asia Anew Initiative, we aim to strengthen our relations with Asia, our motherland, in every area on the basis of mutual interests and common priorities. Within our initiative, we attach importance to improving our relations in this sense as well with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is a representative of Asia's ancient tradition of consultation and of a multilateral dialogue platform."
